Retwisst Recycled Yarns

Retwisst Recycled Yarns

New to Ripping Yarns are three yarns from Retwisst - Retwisst Macrame Rope, Retwisst Macrame String and Retwisst T-shirt yarn. With the focus on sustainability and eco-friendliness constantly increasing, Retwisst offers a great solution to those who wish to craft without the expense of harming the planet.

Retwisst was established in 2011 with a focus on recycled yarns, and now process approximately 6.5 million kilograms of textile waste into yarns each year, keeping it out of landfill. In addition to this, the process they use entails no chemical dyeing or water, saving approximately 52 millions tons of water annually. The textiles industry uses around 93 billion cubic metres of water annually — the equivalent to 37 million Olympic swimming pools, so using recycled fibres such as the ones from Retwisst can really reduce our impact on the planet!

Two of the new yarns we have in stock are recycled cotton macrame cords in different thicknesses - Macrame String has a 3mm thickness and is made of a single strand, whereas Macrame Rope has a 5mm thickness with a triple twist. Macrame is the art of creating beautiful decorations and accessories using various knot techniques - there are no hooks or needles required! Macrame is perfect for making wall hangings, plant hangers, dream catchers, bags, accessories and much more. You can find plenty of tutorials on YouTube such as this one from Retwisst. In addition to this, they also have many knitting and crochet patterns available on their website, which work extremely well with their T-shirt Yarn. This yarn is also made of 100% recycled materials and is perfect for making baskets, bags and even rugs! You can find their patterns here.
