The North Yorkshire Yarn Trail

Moors to the east and Dales to the west covered in sheep growing wool, means that there’s plenty of yarn in North Yorkshire.

Following the outstanding success of the events run in 2022 and 2023 the North Yorkshire Yarn Trail returns bigger and better from 14th until 29th September 2024. This celebration of local yarn shops, runs East to West and North to South across the most beautiful of counties, covering moor and dale, and visiting many of the stunning market towns to be found here. The selection of fabulous local yarn shops along the trail will be welcoming yarn crafters from across North Yorkshire and far beyond for two weeks in the run up to Yarndale 2024 in Skipton, the festival of yarn and woolly creativity.

Sharon King of Ewe and Yarn, Thirsk and Fiona Burks of Yarn Etc. Harrogate, have brought together thirteen Yarn Shops (Ripping Yarns, Castle Stores, Each One Unique, Crafts of Thirsk, Ewe & Yarn, Knitting Pretty, Cottontail Crafts, Yarn Etc, Craftopia, Wensleydale Longwool Sheep Shop, Purl & Jane, Bugweeds and Spinning Jenny) from across North Yorkshire to host the North Yorkshire Yarn Trail (NYYT) which starts on Saturday 14th September and runs to the end of business on Sunday 29th September. It’s a fabulous way for yarn crafters to discover what the range of Yarn Shops across North Yorkshire has to offer and explore the beauty of the county at the same time. The shops will be offering additional opportunities along the trail including prizes, special offers and limited-edition hand dyed yarns.

Taking part in the Trail is easy, pick up a map and a special yarn passport from one of the participating yarn shops and visit as many of the 13 stores on the map as possible between the 14th and 29th September.  For every shop visited the passport will be stamped and by dropping off the passport at the last shop visited, it will be entered into a prize draw. Those who have full cards will be in with a chance to win a bumper gift voucher to spend in their choice from the participating yarn shops. Passports do not need to be fully stamped to be in with a chance to win, and no purchase needs to be made at the shops visited to gain a stamp, so hand in the passport at the last shop visited.

The shops taking part in the Yarn Trail will be putting on additional opportunities during the two weeks, including raffles, door prizes, special offers, knit and natter sessions and exclusive Hand Dyed Yarn Trail yarns. A couple of the shops can also be found at Yarndale on 28/29th September, along with a welcoming Knit and Natter space run by participating shop owners.  Follow each shop individually on social media for more details and North Yorkshire Yarn Trail on Facebook (www.facebook.com/NorthYorkshireYarnTrail) and Instagram (north_yorkshire_yarn_trail) for more information as the trail nears.  Mark the calendar with the dates and join in the yarn centred fun.
